Gorgeous Garden Wall From Recycled Bottles

Check out this incredibly pretty garden wall made of recycled bottles. How pretty that must be in the sunlight. A diamond drill bit for glass and some steel poles and you could easily make one of these yourself. I think I might start saving all of my wine bottles for a garden gate next year.

This is just plain awesome. It’s a doghouse, made of reclaimed wood scavenged from Dumpsters with a garden on top.
It’s a doghouse with a rooftop garden.
“Garden House,” by Kirstin M., was the “Creative Prize Winner” at an event in Savannah, GA, benefiting the local Humane Society and Emergent Structures, which was a rather Unconsumption-y effort based in Savannah and connected to SCAD. (More on the event here.)
There was a live/silent auction, and you can see the other entrants here. I can’t believe somebody snagged this for a mere $75! Lucky dog…

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born January 3, 1892. Today he would been 120 , a remarkable age for a hobbit. He left us an incredible legacy, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion , and more. So today raise a mug of Shire-made beer or a glass of Elven wine, or even just a lovely cup of tea to the memory of J.R.R. Tolkien, gone since 1973 but always remembered for the world he brought to life.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PROFESSOR TOLKIEN !

What are wire hangers doing on this site when we told you: hangers can be made from 100% recycled paperSundela board (a material derived from recycled and compressed newspaper) and biodegradable corn-based plastic? Well, South Korea-based collective 101 Design Studio has devised a clever way to recycle the hangers into a pretty slick-looking light. Available in two versions — “48 Hanger” (rather than pendant — ha!) and “48 Stand” — the lights use, as the names suggest, almost 50 discarded wire hangers to create a very modern shape oddly reminiscent of a more traditional lampshade.
